...but the line was so long we went to Crazy Buffet to eat sushi and came back at 9. We'll be there for the Big Cat. Hope they're handing out scratch cards with neat prizes.

Hey uknick, firstly welcome to MacRumors ;)

Yeah, I'm going to wait and order mine. I'm not rushing in to it. I'll order mine online also, unless I have good reason to pop in to town and buy the iPad2 from the local Bristol store. I'm still wondering if I really need it or not. Still deciding, but temptation is strong!

Come on Will - you know you want one!! Just give into the inevitable....

I bought the first gen a year ago and never regretted it ( sold it on eBay before the new one was announced :-)) it is by far the best gadget I have ever owned and believe me I have tried many! I even had a brief flirtation with a Galaxy Tab over recent weeks - but it only took me a few days before I gave up and stuck it back on eBay! Once you have tasted Apple other fruits taste just bland ;-)

I can't wait to get the new one particularly for AirPlay with my Apple TV.

I would be going to Bristol if I wasn't working today. Hope that there might be one with my name on somewhere in London.

One last small point - can you veleive that Orange block this site on my iPhone because they say it is "adult content" that really annoys me - it wouldn't happen on my 3 SIM used in my iPad!

That's interesting. The way I understand it is that I can buy my Mac somewhere else and then go to Apple within 14 days to buy the 1to1. Am I understanding that correctly?

No, because it only applies to Macs bought at one of the listed locations.

I'm pretty good programming in PHP and Javascript, but now I need something that allows me to create simple desktop apps. Mostly it will be for automation scripts, too much for Apple Script, but not complex enough to jump into Cocoa and Objective-C. Examples: Manipulating text files (sorting, dupe line checking, adding/cutting parts, splitting/combining files etc.), uploading a file to several different FTP servers, sending POST requests to a server.

I often hear Pearl and Python mentioned and I believe they are pre-installed on the Mac, but I don't know much about them. What's the main difference? Which one (or something else?) would be best suited for these tasks? Which one is easier to learn?

Bonus: What's a good site to learn for someone who has general programming knowledge, but is a total noob with those languages?

and way into high posting, one can be a 601 at 5,000 posts

i don't know what the next level will be or at how many posts

it could be the 602, which was not a widely used processor, or the more common 603...but then i wonder if the 603e will be another level or if arn decides the person is a 604...of course, there was the 604e after that

and after the 6xx levels, there is the G3, G4, and G5 and it's a mystery where those sit at

    and is there a G6??

It's a nice-to-have feature, but anyone who has been holding off on an upgrade simply because the white phone wasn't available is vain or foolish.

Anyone who waited obviously did not like the black one. If you don't like a product and can't see yourself getting used to it, you wouldn't buy it. So why is anyone vain or foolish for not buying a product they wouldn't be completely satisfied with?

Anyway, I wanted the white one, but I got the black, as I settled. So I can't wait to buy this baby the day it comes out! I don't like the new proximity sensor though (from 'leaked' pictures).

no highs? no lows? go with bose...

I gotta disagree with you, man.

i went to the store and checked out these speakers, and although they aren't *quite* as good as the klipsch's they come real damn close, and look damn nice too. I'm surprised nobody suggested them..

Also, keep in mind that many people report the VGA output as looking "washed out." I know that I did have that problem when I was using the official VGA cable, so I switched back to component.

I would suggest springing for the elite.

I have a 2010 unibody mini hooked up to a 37" Vizio 1080p HDTV as it's main monitor. (I also have a 24" HD monitor as a dual monitor, but I rarely use that).

I have had absolutely no issues at all using a large HDTV. There isn't any lag, the picture is fantastic, etc.

I play a ton of movies on this thing, using Front Row, VLC, and Boxee (and the iPad has apps to use as a remote for all 3).

    I'd highly recommend it.

There's nothing to avoid really. It's near the best version of lemmings since the Amiga ones.

A brash thing to say! I'm expecting this to be an inch shy of perfect now.

My impulse would be to simplify it, the little touches like the leaves and the mains plug, add to a sense of disorganisation. Personally, I'd start with a solid green and leave off the white swash at the bottom unless that's a critical part of the branding.

    Prioritize the key words.

I'm going to confirm the same message.

I was particularly bothered by the bottom swoop. And since this has to do with e-waste, clean and technical is the way to go... no need for any leaves.

The main message is FREE E-Waste Recycling HERE... it's not an ad for a service, it's a signal to people that right HERE is where you drop e-waste off for FREE. So I'd definitely make those two aspects very clear. Arrows can help reinforce that, but it needs a little work.

The e-waste part is more difficult. What exactly is e-waste? Do batteries count? You can't explain all of that in a simple sign. So while I like the idea of adding a few icons to help illustrate what e-waste is, I think they could be much smaller.

Another thing that I'm missing here is availability. Can I just drive up and drop things off anytime I like? Are there specific hours or days this is open? If so, is that information clearly available elsewhere or does it need to be included?

They say a picture is worth a thousand words... but sometimes a word is worth a thousand pictures. Once you use the word "Recycling" you don't need to include the recycling symbol. You certainly don't need to give it such prominence.

I hope that helps some. Now that you've gone cross-eyed starring at this thing for so long, we just gave you number of reasons to stare at it a while longer. Sorry. Designers will do that to you. :o

I'm a sucker for a good sunset shot, and I like the first here quit a bit. The colors and textures in the sky give it a good feel. It's a pity the sun is on the centerline, though. I tends to capture the eye because it is the brightest area of the photo. If it was a little off center I might like it even more.

The photo of the Cheetahs has a lot of potential. I like where they are placed in the frame, and the direction of their heads is a nice contrast to the flow of their bodies. Kind of moves right then left with their vision. I would like the colors of the grass to be a bit deeper. The exposure is a bit light for the shadows and that lets the sunlit area in the background go too bright.

The other two are nice vacation pics, but they don't stir me visually.

    Dale

I agree with Dale on the cheetah photo. Try turning down the exposure and the greens should turn darker. Months ago when I first started utilizing this site (I, too, am new to this expanded hobby), Dale made the same suggestion on a forest picture I submitted and it made the world of difference. Now I look to set my exposure a minus 2/3's whenever I encounter greenery and it has worked out just fine. Welcome aboard, there is some serious talent as contributors to this site and plenty to learn!:)
