I agree that this is a whole lotta waiting for godot. Still, can I ask those of you with some knowledge on this: Apple is replacing my MBP in the next week...they say. My question is: in the event they release some sort of upgrade, can I return it unopened for a swap within 14 days of receiving it?

Seems to me that for just a mere $100 million (mere to Apple anyway seeing as how they have over $8 billion in cash currently), Apple has just bought Creative out of the mp3 player market. Not to mention that Apple will now be receiving royalties from Creative via the Made for iPod licensing. This is yet another brilliant move by Steve Jobs and is absolutely a win/win for both Apple and Creative.

Wonderful... why would Apple choose the carrier with the worst coverage and customer service (well, besides Sprint)??? T-Mobile or Verizon would be better choices...
You know, if Cingular didn't spend the $$$ to get all of the cool phones first, I think they would be out of business by now... If someone has had a different experience with Cingular, please let me know ;)
I still think Apple should go the Mobile Virtual Network Operator route ala Virgin Mobile, Helio, Amp'd, mobile ESPN, etc.
Well, out here Cingular has waaaaaay better coverage than T-Mobile or Verizon, so it's really a matter of where you are located. It really doesn't matter who thinks what about any phone co. Apple will do what Apple wants and there is no reason to sit here and complain about mobile providers all day long when we don't even know if there is an "iPhone". I travel all across the U.S. all year long and I have Cingular with no coverage problems anywhere and customer service has been fine whenever I needed them.

Oh boy... the Catholic Church is WAY too easy of a target. We should probably leave that one alone.
I hope you people realise that not all people in the catholic church think about condoms and such the way the Vatican does.
I am a seminarian (priest in training so to speak) and do not think condoms should be forbidden.
Don't forget that the Catholic church is very open, as in the Evolution theory, Big Bang, not taking the bible as a science or history book.
Furhtermore, the pope has an iPod nano, and he saaid computer technology is the future.

I can't wait until I can get access to movies from around the world instead of just insipid Hollywood crap.
And a hearty Amen and hell yeah for that!

Don't believe it!
Some people said the same thing back in 2009 when analysts said that Android would overtake the iPhone by 2012 (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=662706). :D

What I find most interesting is that fact the Creative is joining the Made for iPod program and will be producing its own iPod accessories.

$100 million doesn't put a dent in Apple's reserves. It's best to just get this crap out of the way.
Seems like Creative should retire now, just make iPod accessories and license their interface.

Dang they look good! I think the red is going to be a great hit especially in the high school crowd. Now if only I could justify one of these :)

I've been putting off a new mac for YEARS! Gief Core Duo 2 iMacs!
Yep, that would be nice! Being that Apple touts the iMac as being their "flagship model" in many respects, you think that they would ensure it is always as up to date and competitive as possible. I think a Conroe iMac would be great, but perhaps Apple is holding off due to a redesign. I don't know how much they could change the iMac, or if they'd want to right now but who knows...

I love Thunderbolt. Its fast, slim, elegant, occupies small footprint. Intel & Apple should have 3rd party manufacturers lining up offering these peripherals months ago before the latest batch of MacBook Pros are released. Western Digital versions of Thunderbolt HDDS are going to be released real soon - which is kinda too little too late to bask in the 10Gbps hype. No matter, I still want my own 32GB thumb drive running at 10Gbps. The one thumb drive to rule them all :0

ok, just made a quick mockup of what i would like to see announced next week
http://users.pandora.be/blackbox/airport_video.png
and make shure it also works with video_ts folders and avi/divx files (maybe via an front row API for third party developers like VLC?) ;)
this would perfectly complement that itunes movie store
You nailed it, that would be perfect. That's EXACTLY what they should do.

I'm as pro gun rights as anyone, but this sounds like a problem for the security guard. Unless that guard's life was in danger, there was no reason to shoot anyone, especially in the head. The placement of that shot was no accident.
One upside: people will think twice before trying to smash into an Apple store.

Ah, less money for 4" more screen, a ~20% faster C2D CPU, a much much faster GPU, etc? Thankyou mister Jobs! Can't wait to see what Tuesday's iPods will be like! Not that I intend to get one, or maybe I do? Who knows? And here's to some sort of Mac with Kentsfield and R600 (More likely G80 :( ) at Macworld or maybe even earlier with a bit of luck!
It's good to know that one can get a 24" screen, 2.33 Core 2 Duo goodness with the Geforce 7600 256Mb and 2 gig RAM from 5 grand with enough cash spare to buy a new Macbook. (Well at least in edu pricing)
BTW, this is a bit irrelevant, but can anyone explain to me how one gets Xgrid, and what one needs to make it work? ie. Does it cost money, or can it be downloaded from the net, and do u need a FiberChannel card to make it work? Would be cool to have a Macbook Xgridded to a 24" iMac. Preferrably Merom Macbook and Conroe iMac. But might take a while to get that :o
Never mind. : (
Need 10.4 Server apparently, and at least 3 computers to make it worthwhile, it looks like.

Given this event is on, is this now the only thing going on this week that we expect Apple to release something new?
I ask because Paris Expo is on and I was wondering if people had reason to believe that might also be used to release new Apple stuff without a keynote.

ok, so...I wrote this really really really long message, and by the time I had submited it, I had been logged out, and so I lost the whole message. So I'm going to re-write it, but in a much shorter version
Basically I listed all the Ideas I had for the Apple Smartphone. What made the message so long was that I also explained why I wanted each type of feature. I'm going to try and stay away from doing that this time and just list the features but keep in mind that I agree that a lot of these things are a stretch.
- first, call it iMobile instead of iPhone
HARDWARE
- have a full size screen that is a touchscreen.
- have the screen slide up to reveal the keyboard
- have atleast 30 gigs of storage.
- iSight that can rotate. For taking images and having the screen as a viewer, and having the iSight pointed at you for video conferencing
- Use the EvDO technology that the sony treo700 uses that is supposed to be "near broadband speeds"
SOFTWARE
- iPod interface
- mobile iTunes Store, able to download music, shows, and movies on the go.
- ability to record sounds and voices
- ability to record video
- mobile versions of Mail, Address Book, Calender, iPhoto (displaying photos you take or upload) and able to sync perfectly
- mobile Safari
- mobile stickies (more like a notepad type feature)
- bluetooth ( using headsets, but also using the phone as a remote for keynote and the soon to be released iTV
- radio tuner ( i know this is pretty simple, but why not?)
- GPS like system, or atleast a built in mobile google maps? (possibly even mobile google earth
-mobile iChat (since iChat can connect to aim and other services)
- mobile widgets (my sidekick has a lot of programs that you can download for it, most of them being a lot more powerful than most widgets) imagine having the "find the cheapest gas station" widget, get our your phone, bring it up, put in the zip code of wherever you happen to be, see where the cheapest place to get gas is.
- the ability to remote desktop into your mac. (would have to install software on your mac that would create connection for you) gives you the ability just to browse through you desktop's files, if you forgot a file that you need and lets you download it on to your phone.
- Also, lets you use the phone as a bluetooth modem for your computer.
I'm sure there is more..but I'll stop there

Do a poll macrumors.... Us 6 want them pulled Now!!... the others not quoted want them to stay on the App Store for no real good or beneficial reason
I haven't decided either way.. but I also want a poll! Polls are fun.
