Curious that everyone is clamoring for a thunderbolt-enabled machine, but there isn't a single thunderbolt drive available on the market.
I guess some people just need to feel like they have new stuff even if it's totally pointless.
Sandy Bridge its way more faster, and having the thunderbolt available will be a matter of time for external HDD or cases. Either way the thunderbolt can be used for a LCD so I really don't see your point.

I see Apple stock going up on this news. $100 Million is getting off easy. Could have been a LOT worse.
I agree. 100 million doesn't seem like a big deal to me. Now that Creative will sell iPod gear, Apple will get it back. Plus everyone can put this behind them so they can release the damn videoPod.

Some ACD love? I need to buy soon.
Hear hear, but its unlikely, they just updated the current models with more brightness and contrast ratio. I doubt they'd change it so quickly.

If I am forced to watch ANY commercials on the iTunes movie downloads, then I'll never use it, ever. Bad enough I spend $10 to go to a theater to have the same mazda zoom zoom zoom/coke and a smile crap every time.
Why would they do commercials? Commercials only make sense if they give you content for free. Has anyone done home viewing of movies for a fee and still included commercials (other than movie trailers)?

Why is U2 so big with iPods anyways? The only group to have their own iPod.
(I don't mean to be disrespectful to the U2 fanboys out there)
Remember the keynote where Jobs introduced the iTMS (and the whole idea of legal downloads)?
SJ and Bono became bed buddies.

Do any of these suits ever actually get resolved?
Sure they do. Its basically mutual destruction idea. So Samsung at the golf course will tell their counter part at Apple I will give you 20% off our latest SSD and it will all be nice again in the tech world or at least until the end of the week.

This can be good...does look like a photo only event....but we can still hope (iPhone with great camrea ?)
Is that wise? The camera in cellphones is at best a sorry excuse. Introducing a crappy camera at photokina... I don't know
Still I would love to see the iPhone.

I think I just threw up in my mouth a little. Seriously, that thing looks awful. I know it's just an "artists rendition", but that artist deserves to be taken outside and shot. If Apple brings out one of those, I will have lost all my faith in Jonathan Ives and the design team. No, I won't abandon Apple, but I will abandon my dream of owning an Apple phone someday.

Can they PLEASE enable Jumbo Frames on the new iMacs? It's ridiculous that in order to properly run a SAN at work we need to buy refurbished iMac Intel Core 2 Duos
What about the Mac Pro? It's way past due, would that come first, before the iMac?
Don't look at the Buyers Guide average release time. The past two Mac Pro upgrades have been around the 15 month mark in between releases. At the current rate we'd be lucky to see one around October.

Either the video playback code was improved to be less power hungry (maybe it uses less CPU, maybe it doesn't need to spin the disk as much), or an improved video chip was put in which uses less power.
Thanks for that explanation.

You're right, just went to Intel's site. How 'bout Merom? I thought I
heard (or read) that one of Intel's next generation cpu's would be
pin compatable with the current Yonah's.
EDIT: went to the Merom link in your sig. I hope to see a BIOS/EFI updater so I can upgrade the cpu in my iMac.Merom is socket compatible with Yonah. Some users have already put in the new chips in current machines.

I see people still talking about big announcements at the Paris expo. Considering there will be NO keynote of any kind I find it unlikely.
Agreed. I think there will be 'quiet updates' of the Mac range in the coming weeks, plus a 'Special Event' or two in the coming months for the announcements of the new iPods and Movie Store.

Oh god no I hope apple doesn't cave to this kind of Orwellian garbage. I feel for all of the victims of DUIs and know that I have personally called the police on a car that was very obviously had an impaired person behind the wheel but as a non drunk driver if I want to avoid being hassled I should be able to.
In this case you getting hassled is < then the value of getting a drunk ass of the road.
I do doubt how useful this app would be to a totally inebriated person, but let's get them buzz drinkers off the road too. If you have to use NYC transit after 911 you know what hassle is.

If, for example, someone is using Verizon Wireless, would the Apple Phone work for them? In other words, how "universal" would this phone truly be? Would it be able to compete in international markets?

'app store' means simply 'store at which apps are offered for sale,'
So what about Apple store?
It would not be a problem. Unless they started selling fruits.

Yeah for the portables, but Conroe for the desktop.
But Merom uses the same socket as Core Duos, and Conroe uses a different socket. So Conroe won't fit in your iMac.

I refuse to waste any more time arguing with someone that doesn't understand what he's talking about and thinks a niche format will rule the world in short order and that adaptors are 10 cents on the dollar for complex new high speed connectors. Good luck arguing with this guy. I'm done wasting my time.
Yeah, I said Thunderbolt would take over the world when I said that USB and Thunderbolt were complimentary. Thunderbolt for high bandwidth, USB for low bandwidth.
Yeah, super complex high speed adapters that we've seen done time and time again in an affordable manner.
Glad you're done arguing. Clearly you only had two points to try and refute and it would be embarrassing for you to just leave the rest of my previous post with no replies.

That's horrible news for me. I Don't know how much longer I will be able to use my iMac for. But I don't want to order a MBP and 3 weeks later, a new one comes out.Alternative temporary plan is buy the refurb 1.83 GHz MacBook for $949 now then sell it for about the same when the 2.33 GHz Merom MacBook Pros ships. I would think any almost new MacBook will sell for the same price as refurb or worst case $50 less until the Merom MacBooks ship - which could be at the same time as the MBP but more likely by November. :)
