Without getting into specifics of shady companies etc., I can tell you this. The GC process sponsored by an employer is indeed employ-centric in the sense that, it has to be initiated by an employer.
As long as they provide you with the necessary paperwork to enable you to travel (such as h1 or advance parole specific documentation), I see no issue with them not giving you this documentation.
I completely agree with you that it feels a lot better when you have a copy to look at.
However, if they do not give it out as a matter of policy, but, make sure that you have everything you need in case you want to travel, you should be okay.

I was on the same boat in NOV at mumbai consulate, had an EAD and AP but went for stamping.
My attorney told me to wait until I get through the admin processing rather then using my AP. I did not cross question him on this and after 3 weeks I received an e-mail from the consulate to submit my passport and get my visa stamped.

In my opinion USCIS is not very strict on the RFE deadlines. I was late by 3 days for an RFE on my I140. They accepted. But that was more than a year ago. May be, it depends on officer.

Firstly to comment on the story, What the heck are they to do with a shrinking and aging population!
Anyway this just speaks to issues globally.
If we believe we are in a global economy...........and I do. Then these are relevant.
For Instance, an IT pro in India makes a lot of money compared to professionals in other fields there. Can anyone argue that this is not due to Globalization? In some areas and fields this situation will work in reverse.
We stand to gain by observing trends in other developed economies since it may be a harbinger of things to come here.
Protectionism in the rich world is growing, that is a fact and was only to be expected. We are reaching an inflection point here where if capitalists here want to continue this trend they have to also accept some unpalatable developments. This might include higher tax rates on property, investments and returns, higher risk threshold on overseas portfolio investment.........not just economic risk either (political and other risks are much higher in the developing world..........................for the naysayer Desi just think about the left successfully blocking the nuclear deal and Indira Gandhi's nationalization program). These will emerge in a democracy. It matters little what the position is on these issues by the elites or the 2 dominant parties in the US. A 3rd force will likely emerge if needed. Already we are seeing protectionists like Lou Dobbs, John Edwards gaining traction with their views. This article about the situation in the UK shows us the same there.
Change sometimes needs to be managed. I feel this is one of those situations. Immigration is good for the rich world. Especially our kind, highly skilled and entrepreneurial and linked to hyper growth economies of the future.
Lets hope our voice gets heard in after all this land of immigrants.

Did you contact the SSN department in person or called them.? Its better to go in person and get hold of the supervisor.
My brother had the same issue, but after 2 weeks of waiting, he used to go to the local SSN opffice everyday and somehow was able to get hold of the supervisor. The Supervisor called him once they got the info in their system and also gave him the number. The actual card came after few days in mail. I would suggest you to contact the local SSA office Super/Admin and escalate your case saying you badly need the number to start working.

Hi,
may I know what would be the problem if the name is not mentioned in the birth certificate. It was issued right after I born, without specifying name.
my parents name, date of birth ,date of place are there in the birth certificate.
filed I485 in late june. I guess they might send RFE.

You need affidavit from parents. My lawyer addressed this specific case for people born in India and said that in this case, two affidavits are required (although non-availability certificate is not required).

I know what you are saying about Biometrics...both of our biometrics were done at the same time ....in any case I can't challenge my attorney especially one which is the largest in Boston...we will wait for the FP and then bug him again...at least she is current next month too........
Well good luck with Lawrence Infopass.....strange place no parking ...had to park by a No parking sign where every other car was parked....the office is lush such a waste of public money.....and absolutely useless chaps....actually if I had got my lawyer;s mail an hour back I may not have made that long trip.....

increasing IV's publicity, visibility or member participation, this meeting
would be a good platform to brainstrorm. We will need to move into a high
gear and start agressive campaign in So Cal.
Please join Local IV chapter and also attend Oct 6th meeting in Cerritos, CA. Meetings details can be found on Yahoo Group. For new members, this will be a great chance to meet and greet local IV members. For not-so-new members, this will be good chance to brainstrom about future actions.

You don't need to be working in the US while the AOS is pending. You just need to have the job when permanent residence is approved, or to have a job in the "same or similar occupational classification."

Can I clarify a point, if someone is laid off whilst their 485 AOS is pending, would they still be 'in status'...and if so, for how long, and at what point do they need to provide 'proof' of a future role.

Forum Gurus, i have a basic question. Currently i'm employed by a corporation and working full time for them under H1B. Now, i want to work for additional company as part time (approx. 20 hrs/week). This company cannot give me cash but only check. Is it possible to file additional H1B just for this company and start working for them under this new H1B?
My current status is: H1B approved with current company and I-140 approved.
Also, if the answer to my question above is yes, then could this affect my current H1B and approved I-140 in any ways. Thanks in advance.

Let me rephrase. You can have both but you can only enter in as one status. Whatever you enter in as, that will be your status. If you have not entered in as AP, You can enter the US on H-1b without impacting your AOS.

True but most people don't know the difference between passing it in senate and signing it into law - they will think it simply passed (this has been my experience when talking to GC/485 newbies). I was in same boat. And apparently there is nothing like I-94 extension according to my lawyer. So after your passport comes.. You go out of the country and come back for a new I-94. Or you apply for visa renewal. I had to apply for h1 extension anyway within 5 mos. So I applied for renewal. Hope this helps.
