In OHIO I have successfully renewed my DL for 4 full years solely on original I-485 receipt.
On H1 they still give 1 year extensions.
Try doing the same in your state.

According to a recent Newsweek article, Immigrants irrespective of their legal status are actually good for the job market, and boost the economy.
Lou Dobbs, take note: immigrants are good for our economy. The most skilled create jobs in technology and engineering, says Duke professor Vivek Wadhwa, who estimates that in 2005 immigrant-founded engineering and tech companies employed 450,000 people and generated $52 billion in sales. But even the least skilled more than repay their costs in schools and health care. Two highly respected Australian economists, Maureen Rimmer and Peter Dixon, studied the issue for the libertarian Cato Institute. "The net impact on U.S. households from tighter border enforcement is unambiguously negative," they found, because even low-skilled immigrants expand the economic pie and create jobs farther up the ladder. Cato's Dan Griswold says the study shows a $250 billion difference between the most and least restrictive immigration policies.Read more here (http://www.newsweek.com/id/212147)
Here is what Michael Bloomberg, the Mayor of New York (http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/09_34/b4144053830583_page_2.htm), had to say about Immigration and the economy:
America's deep pool of talent and technological knowhow will continue to make it a highly desirable locationand investment opportunity. And if Congress has the sense to fix our broken immigration system, our open society and world-class universities will remain a magnet for the world's best and brightest. That's important: Economists have estimated that every person arriving on an H1-B visa (http://www.h1b.biz/lawyer-attorney-1137085.html) creates jobs for five native-born Americans. Competing for talent and capital will also require all levels of government to invest more in our quality of lifemass transit, parks, schools, and so forth. That will help raise our long-term standard of living, even if real incomes don't rise appreciably in the near term.

I have a question on the receipt number. If we get the receipt number, does it mean "The application is accepted" (All the supporting documentation and fee are coorect)?
or
Are there any cases where receipt numbers is issued though the supporting documentation / fee is not correct?

AILA Leadership Has Just Posted the Following:
The Senators are coming, the Senators are coming! That's right, the Senate is debating the DHS Appropriations bill right now, and immigration amendments are being offered. I blogged about the Sessions E-Verify proposal yesterday. Well bill, that passed by voice vote this morning, but not before the Senate voted down a proposal from Senator Schumer to table the Sessions proposal. Senator Leahy, in an astute move prior to the vote on Sessions' E-Verify bill, amended that bill to include a permanent extension of the EB-5 Regional Pilot Program. So, Leahy's amendment permanently extending the EB-5 Regional Pilot Program was approved too!
Senator DeMint from South Carolina threw in a bill to mandate the construction of actual fences along 700 miles of the Southern Border, taking away the right of DHS/CBP to decide how best to protect that border. That has also passed.
Senator Hatch has now introduced a bill which includes positive changes including undoing the Widow Penalty, and a religious worker extension and a rural doctors program extension. You can still call the Senate Switchboard to voice your support for this latter bill, and your disgust with the Senate passage of laws without debate that will affect millions of lives and cost billions of dollars. You can reach your Senator by calling 202-224-3121.
All of these amendments, of course, must now go back to a conference committee with the House, and there is no guarantee that any of them will become law. But, lest you thought your time to relax from calling your Congressman was over, it has now started again. Get on the phone and start demanding REAL Immigration Reform, rather than this piecemeal junk.https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/186823568153827945-7232301415393625463?l=ailaleadership.blogspot.com

Hi All,
My online status for I-140 petition comes up with this weird status.
Your Current Case Status for Form I140, IMMIGRANT PETITION FOR ALIEN WORKER
Current Status: Document mailed to applicant.
On Feburary 7th, 2011 we mailed the document to the address we have on file. You should receive the new document within 30 days. If you do not, or if you move before you get it, call customer service.
Any idea what this could be?
Please share your thoughts.
Thanks in advance!!

I-134 was the most confusing form for me too.
I let my lawyer fill it for me, and she did tick the "intend to" but did not fill the area in question.

Six years of my H1B expires on Oct 2010. Company A had filed my PERM in April 2009. I was laid off by Company A in Jan 2010. I found another employment and joined Company B in Feb 2010. Company B has filed for H1B transfer with 2 months recapturing while I was outside US thus possibly a visa date of Dec 2010. I've read in this forum that Company B can ask for 7th year extension based on pending LC for more than 365 days with Company A. But my LC from Company A was approved in Feb 2010. Company A will not file I-140 for me. Can someone please tell me if it is still possible for 7th year extension with approved PERM but no pending I-140?
I'm seeking help here as I need to plan ahead for kids education and home. Thanks to IV.
