New Senate GOP Immigration Package in the Offing
(March 5) At 11:30 a.m. this morning, a group of Republican senators will hold a press conference to showcase a package of 10-15 bills designed to make critical improvements to America’s immigration system.
Each bill in the package is expected to represent a specific step toward securing America’s borders; increasing enforcement at the workplace; or restoring law and order to our nation’s broken immigration system. The package is also expected to illustrate achievable, "bite-sized" steps that Congress – working in a bipartisan manner – should be able to accomplish between now and November.

over 250 people responded to the earlier poll and we see that atleast among IV'ites the PDs are spread all over the years (10% 20% 20% 30%-2006 10%-2007), and there are significant number of 2003/2004 PDs out there.
This followup poll is to see how many of these people are already in the I-485 system (likely to use up visa number as soon as one is available) vs waiting to file I-485.

A# is either someting that you get by the following ways:
1. If you were a student and were on OPT the EAD card had an A#
2. Sometimes when your I-140 is approved it comes with A# (NOT ALWAYS NO ONE KNOWS WHY/WHY NOT)
3. When your I-485 is accepted most likely you will get a new A#
So if you have 1 or 2 use it else leave it blank.
That's your alien number and it's given to you when your I140 is approved. See my post above.

Planning to use AC21 Portability and work on EAD.
If the EAD reneval is applied and If it gets expired before we get the new EAD, can I work by having the EAD reneval receipt notice with out affecting the employment.

I do not think one can continue working if the existing EAD has expired and the renewal has not arrived.Though, one is still in AOS but simply cannot work till he renewed EAD arrives.

The original poster said that she was "laid off". So the question of her sponsoring company paying her does not arise. And hence she is without a job and she knows it. On this basis I said that it would be considered fraud if she goes for H1B stamping.

Today when I looked the I-485 status I found the status changed to card production ordered. I'm traveling to India on 1st Dec (coming saturday). It is a business trip and I'm unable to postpone it. My attorney says If I travel now, they will consider the GC abandoned. Is this true?? I have an approve AP with me. I also planned to stamp my H1B visa in India. What a confusion!

Where did you read extra cash is being pumped into other gov projects.
I read on USCIS website they were hiring 1500 new employees.
to be fair to USCIS they did try to get out of the fiasco on july 1 by moving the dates back again Eventually they were forced to accept it again..
They clearly knew this was cash cow so why did they want to cancel it in the first place..
Its a lot of money and its definitely a lot of work as well..There are also no signs of hiring new stafff..most of extra cash they getting is being pumped into other gov projects so the staff is still being overworked and I am sure will be complaning

Set up your own company LLC. and ask them to sign corp-corp or 1099 and you be the sole owner of this company.
This way even if you dont get full time offer you can defend self employment.
W2 Contract can be a problem because of USCIS's perception of permanent job.

Good to hear there is a serious attempt being made. However, in light of what is happening with comprehensive healthcare reform, is it advisable to try comprehensive immigration reform especially with the congressional make of of the 2 chambers?
The 2010 CIR already had strict border protection clauses and it mandated a secure border first. It looks like the republicans want to split it from the 'illegals path to legalization' and concentrate on bills that have enforcement first, reading Graham's statement. He was even opposed to the moderate DREAM act.

Why on earth an attorney didn't suggested to use nunc pro trunc which facilitates saying person is maintaining legal status after the recent entry.
