I'm really excited for the new features, many of which sound great, but I wonder why they couldn't just implement them into the current FCP interface? I'm a heavy Final Cut Pro user and really fast with the current application. I hate to have to learn an entirely new interface.
Long story short the core of the current FCP code is from the late 90's and there is only so long you can keep patching and bolting things on before you have to blow it up and start from the ground up again.

You can do that now. Put in a CD and deselect the check mark to the left for any song you don't want ripped. I do it all the time.
Thanks, I'll try that. I've always had to hit the "burn" button and then select or deselect the songs AFTER the disk was ripped. Of course, I often don't know which song has the scratch until I've tried to rip the whole disk, but at least I'll be able to save the rest of the songs.

Finally, I would reiterate that it is not at all racist to take note of, accept, or reasonably comment on these facts. As I've said earlier, to properly combat the problem, one must first understand it. Denouncing the messengers as racist because their conclusions are unpopular will accomplish nothing except perpetuate the problem at hand.
This may be true, but at the same time, the sort of information you present - if true - does lay the framework for some very racist policies (only hiring white people b/c of intelligence, etc).

is this really a big deal?
Seriously, The Beatles were great, I would think by now most people have their songs. How many Lp's and Cd's they sold? How many Millions.
The only positive thing from this outcome is that Apple Corps will stop filling lawsuits against Apple Computer. Besides that, I see no point as this being a big deal.
Basically this is a very big deal. The Beatles catalog is similar to the Star Wars movies. The release of the material on a particular platform or format gives final legitimacy to the format.
Think of the Beatles catalog as the crown jewels of music (as the Star Wars movies are the crown jewels of movies, we'll be seeing but BlueRay and DVD-HD courting Lucas Films, whichever format they chose will be the standard, you may not agree, but that's just the was it goes).
Also there are quite a few people who have packed away their albums and CDs, but then they're reminded of a classic Beatles song and it's easy for them to spend the money to re-purchase the album than go into storage and then rip it. And if the sound quality is better!
How can the sound quality be better, well in the 80's and 90's a lot of stuff was either rushed out (not the case in the Beatles catalog) or the technology was not up to par (which is the case), so it's possible that an iTunes version may actually sound better than the initial CD release of the Beatle catalog from the late 80's.

Now, a lot of us rumor-heads are focused on bleeding-edge. And it kinda burns us that Intel/Athlon chips are closing in on 3GHz and we've just broken 1 gig. But we (rumor-heads) are the few, and PC marketing no longer seems to focus on speed. And I believe that Apple is slowly turing more heads out there.
And I have to agree with you.
Apple is a business. They have shareholders that hold them accountable for their performance. They goal for them is to maximize profitability. To achieve this goal, apple has a marketing department. I know very little about marketing, but what I do tells me that the four P's of marketing are place, price, promotion, and product. My understanding is that "place" pertains to where you want to position yourself in the market. Do you want to sell high end, mid or low end? You get the idea. It is totally possible to sell a low end product, have less market share and still be more profitable than a company that sells high end and has more market share.
Bottom line, Apple does not exist to outperform pc's. They exist to make their share holders money. The original question was who should we blame? I am not sure that there is a problem. As one consumer, I would love to see macs outperform pc's, but before I am willing to accept there is a problem that will affect apple's profitability I would like to see a business case explaining how apple can make more money by fixing these alleged "problems". But, I really dont care. I use apple because i like it. when apple stops meeting my computer needs, i can go somewhere else, or do without.
Edvinow,l you do raise some thought provoking questions and I apprecaite that. My point was that just because we want more, doesnt necessarily means that a company's strategy is flawed. After all, you are dissappointed with some of what apple does, and they got your money didn't they :)

The Apple Tax has gotten out of control.
Im tired of Toshiba/Dell/HP making systems with far superior specs, at 30% less than Apple.
I beg to differ.
The Apple Tax has not gotten 'out of control'.
Apple has always maintained a 30% profit margin
Therefore the tax has ALWAYS been about 25%.
Well, if you are not getting hardware with that money what are you getting?
Does Mac OSX have no value to you?
Could it be worth more than Windows?
A lot more?
Frankly, shouldn't Toshiba/Dell/HP be charging A LOT MORE?
They wish.

During the course of our interview, it came out that Apple had leaned on Maynor and Ellch pretty hard not to make this an issue about the Mac drivers -- mainly because Apple had not fixed the problem yet. Maynor acknowledged that he used a third-party wireless card in the demo so as not to draw attention to the flaw resident in Macbook drivers. But he also admitted that the same flaws were resident in the default Macbook wireless device drivers, and that those drivers were identically exploitable. And that is what I reported. end quote

As a MBP owner who bought a rev1 model right when they came out -- and has been sending it in to fix its many, many problems constantly, and is now seeing it lag behind the iMacs in speed and power -- I feel like I bought a lemon. Thanks, Apple, for pissing in my face.

Wonderful composition! I really like how you choose to freeze the water as opposed to showing it flow. The reflected light, the symmetry - all great stuff.

it really kinda sucks, I've been a mac fanboy for a long time. And finally the day has come when I can move on from the iBook G4 that I can barely use and this piece of crap http://www.amazon.com/Dell-Gx270-Intel-Desktop-installed/dp/B001O018Y2 now the time has come to get a Mac and they are taking their sweet time with the new stuff. Sure, they sued HTC, sure, they have the pointless iPad that doesn't support a bunch of stuff on the web, but they're leave the Mac out to dry. It makes me sad :(

sorry...but her stuff is light years ahead of that old outdated sound.
You have obviously never heard of the auto-tune tool, and never heard her in person without audio altering tools. That's not talent, that's production.
The Beatles are talent. Green Day is talent. U2 is talent. Garth Brooks is talent. The Rolling Stones, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Elvis are all talent.
Scott Joplin is talent, and I would wager that more people, even today, know "The Entertainer" than "Blah Blah Blah"...
People's view on music appreciation is severely warped. :(
Who???
I presume this is a piss take.
My point exactly.
I wonder if anyone payed 1.29 for revolution number nine.
I lol'ed, and I needed that in this thread. :)

The local BB was listing all varieties in stock online a few hours ago. I was 3rd inline as the doors opened.
The dude says "We have NO iPad(2)s." - they have been showing iPad(1) on hand, and seem to have some around still at $100 off.
I consider this just folly, and borderline 'bait-and-switch'.
I wonder how many other stores have ZERO stock, especially after the rumor about conflict with Apple about stock being held back.
It doesn't really matter to me, my Apple online order is scheduled for delivery 10 days from now. I just wanted to see if there would be a line (I got inline about 5 min prior to doors opening) and what sort of inventory was on hand.
Now I know.

Hey, UNEMPLOYED
Looks to me like those are both 15" models, one just being a larger image. I can see that the speakers look somewhat more slender.
If this is the "new design of the MBP" it's nothing special. The scratch pad is larger, though. WHy on earth is APPLE limiting itself by using an extremely thin formfactor??
What diff does it make if the machine is 3 mm thicker, and has better sound, better heat dissipation etc.?
AND ALL SCREENS WOBBLE BECAUSE OF THE HINGE DESIGN. CLEARLY FAULTY ENGINEERING!:D
Here are some images of the banner, MBP 15 & 17[/QUOTE]

Considering that a 160GB iPod Classic existed in it's really been more like 4 years since Apple has made meaningful progress with this line.
Perhaps if a Classic were to be produced with capacity superior to all its predecessors, it might motivate people to upgrade.
